Adult-Child Attachment Play

Parents and carers who are concerned about their children’s behaviour often feel that by adopting a playful attachment approach they will somehow lose control over their family life. In fact, the opposite is true. When the parent-child relationship is working, helpful child behaviour generally follows and family life becomes more manageable which can also lead to a positive change in school.

What does it involve?

PCAP helps parents to manage time, environment, emotions and help their children to make helpful choices. Parents are introduced to tools to increase parental sensitivity and understanding which is proven to increase attachment security in children.

PCAP involves sharing three key skills with parents and carers through weekly interactive workshop-style sessions across 6 weeks (or more if required). Once these skills are well-established, the parent or carer is helped to transfer them to problematic areas of home life.

These sessions can be held in person or over video call.

We work together to establish confidence in the skills and knowledge before we introduce it to your child.  We take this at your pace with the goal of you feeling empowered to be the change agent in your home.

Through this course you will be fully supported to:

  • Enhance your relationship with your child

  • Understand your child's emotional world

  • Establish predictable and consistent routines for your child

  • Support your child with behaviour regulation

  • Support all areas of your child's development

  • Harness the therapeutic powers of play to support your child through the challenges of childhood

Through this support you will learn key skills to help you manage time, environment and emotions and help your child to make helpful choices.  You will be supported to use these skills at home during short therapeutic play times with your child. Once these playtimes are established, the evidence base shows that children 'act out' less at other times, anxiety is reduced, and parents feel more confident and have a greater understanding of their children's strengths.

This programme is gentle and subtle yet is backed by rigorous empirical research. As each family is unique, the delivery of this is reflective of that.
