Hi, I'm Jess, founder of JFrostPlayTherapy.

I am a warm, authentic and qualified play therapist offering bespoke therapy services to children and families. I specialise in developmental trauma in children.

I work collaboratively with my clients and their grown ups using play and creative arts whilst drawing on a person-centred theoretical approach. This enables me to build a unique therapeutic relationship which meets their individual needs. I work from a non pathologising perspective whilst upholding the core conditions of unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence.  Through providing these core conditions in a psychologically held space, my belief is that my client would feel safe enough to find the answers in themselves.

I've always had an interest in people; the way we think, the way we learn and the way we become who we are.  With 15 years experience in both teaching and senior leadership roles in mainstream primary schools, I needed to take this interest further.  I have often been frustrated by the lack of support available to children to help them heal from past or present trauma and enable them to reach their full potential.  So what could I do to better support the emotional needs of children?

I came across play therapy as I studied for my degree in Psychosocial Science.  I have since completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Play Therapy with APAC.  I love the way that the non-directive approach allows children to work at their own pace in a space that is safe and truly permissive.   I love witnessing each child make sense of their world and develop their sense of self.  I am also now equipped to support parents and professionals to help the children in their care navigate the complexities of their emotional development.

I whole-heartedly believe in the power of play and creativity and the way they can support children through positive and challenging life experiences.

Please get in touch to discuss how I may be able to support your child, you or your setting.

I'd love to hear from you.

Testimonials

It’s an odd feeling as a parent of a young child letting another grown up hear the things you’d only think your child would share with you. When I spoke to Jess in the lead up to my child starting therapy I knew that she could, and would, hold my child’s thoughts and feelings. I felt so comfortable leaving him with Jess. He warmed to her and the space they were in instantly. My child’s day would always start differently on a ‘play therapy day’. He’d wake up and remember it was after school and it set an upbeat tone for the day. Straight from pick up he’d ask if it was time to go yet.

One session in particular stood out for me as it was after a very difficult school day and he didn’t want to leave me when we were on our way. As soon as he was with Jess and in ‘their’ space he appeared to calm and was happy for me to leave. After the session he was like a different child; upbeat and responsive. It’s odd not knowing what happened in the sessions but I love that my child had the space and freedom to share his thoughts and feelings with Jess; I wish every child could have the same opportunity! She got to know him so well over the weeks, it has been a joy to see him develop alongside Jess. He appears to have more confidence in himself and can articulate his emotions with more awareness.
